Tower Hamlets Welcomes

Supporting Refugees

Tower Hamlets Welcomes is a partnership between The Salvation Army in Stepney and Bethnal Green Mission Church. We are a community sponsorship and advocacy group that aims to support and promote the resettlement and inclusion of refugees and other newcomers to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Powering resettlement

Community sponsorship is a proven, successful, community-led route to resettlement and integration in the UK and provides a real alternative to people seeking sanctuary by dangerous and life-threatening means.

Community-led settlement also helps reduce pressure on the Local Authority by building local capacity, whilst allowing Tower Hamlets residents to demonstrate their heart for compassion and welcome.

Supporting Refugees

This will be our second family resettlement by this partnership in conjunction with LBTH and we were pleased to launch the project officially in October 2025. In 2026 we will be resettling a family with refugee status, selected for us by the UNHCR and UK Government Home Office.

We need funds to prepare the house so it can become a home for the family and to help meet their integration needs. The money that is given will be spent in a way that shows dignity to the family and provide the essentials in their home so that they can live well from the start of their resettlement.

Please help us to make this family feel welcome by giving generously

Any funds given in excess of the amount needed to directly support this resettlement will be used to support future community-led welcome activities carried out by Tower Hamlets Welcomes in the borough.
